The Nissan Skyline R34 – GTR with the custom C-West Bodykit was a model I originally started in November 2003 inspired by the film “2 Fast 2 Furious” and starring Paul Walker.  In November 2008, having learnt from my mistakes I restarted the project from scratch improving on all areas. This was a personal project which second time around took only a few days to complete.

Tricyle Vase

Posted by all3dmax under Competition Submissions

The Tricyle Vase was something I created for a speed modelling competition at 3D Total where the topic was to create a Vase in 60 minutes. Instead of your typical styled glass vase I chose to model a unique/novelty style vase and I instantly knew when I saw the Tricycle Vase that this was what I was looking for.

Making of some basic Rope

Posted by all3dmax under Tutorials

In this tutorial I demonstrate a range of techniques using the Autodesk 3D Studio Max application which include modelling, pelt-unwrapping, texturing and path deforming. Although Rope is a basic object the techniques shown can be of use to many objects which you may find useful for a project you may be working on.

The instructions provided are aimed at a beginner level but encourage graphic artists of any level to watch as you may learn something new.

This tutorial is for training and educational purposes only, please do not reproduce without written permission.

Enjoy!

The Tiny Turbos are a small set of Lego Racers which retail for about $7.95AUD each. I purchased these specifically for modelling in 3D and started by modelling each piece by piece then fitting them together as per the instruction manual. All stickers were scanned in from the originals and the entire project took only a few hours to complete.

Pirate Telescope

Posted by all3dmax under Competition Submissions

The Pirate Telescope is one I created for a speed modelling competition at 3D Total where the topic was to model a telescope in 60mins. Inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean and being a simple shape I focused on the lighting and textures to bring the model to life.

BBS Alloy Rim and Tyre Tread

Posted by all3dmax under Tutorials

There are many great tutorials demonstrating how to model a car rim and a tyre tread however none that I am aware of demonstrate the techniques I use in this BBS Alloy Rim and Tyre Tread tutorial.

NewCG contacted me to publish this tutorial in their popular magazine [CGMagazine Issue #65] which was a great honor. You can view some of the published pages here: CGMagazine PDF [635 KB]

Here is the original tutorial in PDF format: Tutorial: BBS Alloy and Tyre Tread PDF [4.4 MB]

This is a 3D model of Donkey Kong Jr. one of Nintendo’s classic Game & Watch devices sold in the 80s. I modelled this for a speed modelling competition at 3D Total where the challenge was to model a portable game system in 90 minutes. I specifically selected Donkey Kong Jr. as it was one I had owned during my childhood and was a nice experience revisiting these memories while creating it.

My submission was nominated as the winning entry for the competition… yay!

Rope and Roll

Posted by all3dmax under Personal Projects

Recently I had to model some rope for another project and was inspired to do a small scene, enter Rope and Roll. The entire scene took about 30mins to design including texturing/lighting and rendered using Vray and post production in Photoshop.

The wooden floor includes a diffuse, normal and specular map. The rope includes diffuse, normal and bump map for a displacement. The scene has 1 Vray Light and a HDR-Image used for global illumination and the environment.

Ferrari Modena 360

Posted by all3dmax under Personal Projects

The Ferrari Modena 360 was Ferrari’s 20th road designed convertible in production from 1999 to 2005, has a six-speed manual, 3.6L V8 and was named after the town of Modena. -wikipedia

This was a personal project which I had committed to model as much as possible even if it was not to be seen in the final renders. Unfortunately due to a system crash all data, except for a few renders below, were lost before completion. Many people have asked if I would ever restart this project, all I can say is my motivation was lost with the data.

I hope you enjoy the work-in-progress pics!

Transformers Matrix

Posted by all3dmax under Competition Submissions

The Transformers Matrix is a model I created for a speed modelling challenge featured on the 3DTotal website where the topic was to model Hero/Villain Equipment in 60 minutes. I am a big fan of the original Transformers Generation 1 series, especially the cartoon feature film which highlights the Matrix as being a power that will “light their darkest hours”.
